Orphanage

We stop at the Fundacion Exodo Children's home on our way back to San Salvador from somewhere.  It's not at all what I expect.  It's clean and well constructed; the children are clean and well dressed.  It's located on a ridge with a nice overlook at one spot.  It was created by a wealthy Salvadoran woman when her daughter asked her a question about a poor street child.  Not all the children are orphans.  Some parents just don't have the money to take care of their children.

When our bus pulls up and some of our young women step off the bus, the girls run down to hug them.  The boys are more restrained.

The staff person tells us that they sent a dozen of the most promising youth for training as wait staff.  I suppose that's a great thing; the prospect of future employment, but I find it unsettling.  That's the best they can aspire to?

"Iphone?",one of the girls asks.  I instead produce my camera and show them how the operate it.  They took turns with it; they took the rest of these pictures; I cropped some of them.

We are at the orphanage just an hour or two.  Afterwards Pastor Chris says he fears the children just have hurt again when we leave.   It was fun for us at least.
